Dana White: UFC 218 Heavyweight Overeem vs. Ngannou Winner Earns Next Title Shot

UFC 218 event is happening tonight December 2 at Little Caesars Arena following prelims on FS1 and UFC Fight Pass.

Heavyweight contender Alistair Overeem and Francis Ngannou feature as co-headliner at UFC 218. UFC president has officially gone on record by saying their name a No. 1 contender fight in the heavyweight division.

White revealed that whoever comes out emerging winner from this bout will get a chance to step inside the Octagon with reigning heavyweight titleholder Stipe Miocic.(Via MMAJunkie)

“Whoever wins is going to fight Stipe,” White told reporters during a media scrum, which MMAjunkie attended, following Friday’s The Ultimate Fighter 26 Finale event in Las Vegas.

There have been some questions about Miocic’s status over the past few months after he revealed he was trying a better contract deal with the UFC. Miocic last fought at UFC 211 in May, where scores a first-round knockout of Junior Dos Santos.

Moreover, White said everything is sorted out with his champion Miocic, and he is ready to fight with the winner of Overeem vs. Ngannou.

“We get (expletive) done,” White said. “We always figure it out. We’re in a good place.”

Miocic defeated Overeem back in September 2016 at UFC 203 via first-round knockout, and although Overeem came close to winning the bout when he dropped the champ, he couldn’t get the job done.

Former UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez hasn’t fought since July 2016 and dealing with a consistent injury from past many years. When he was healthy, he has proven to be as good as any heavyweight in Mixed Martial Arts history.

White, added he’s not currently part of the conversation to fight Miocic, this includes when he is cleared to compete. UFC brass said he should take another fight, before seeking a title fight.

“Cain? When’s the last time you saw Cain fight?” White said. “Cain hasn’t fought in forever. Cain’s going to have to come back and fight somebody to even think about that spot. I’m sure Cain doesn’t want to come back and jump right in the fire. He’s been out for a while.”
