Jon Jones, the UFC heavyweight champion, has stirred discussion with comments about possibly vacating his title. UFC CEO Dana White recently reacted to the news after Jones returned from Thailand. The situation has left the heavyweight division in limbo as plans move forward.

White expressed surprise at Jones’ remarks.

“He said he’s ready to vacate the belt? F*cking crazy,” Dana White said at UFC 316 post-fight press conference. “I’ve been busy. I haven’t been keeping up with the gossip. He’s either back today or came back yesterday or whenever. He was in Thailand. He’s home. We’ll be home tonight. Tuesday, we’ll figure this out.”

The comments suggest a need for clear decisions soon.

White confirmed progress on a key matchup.

“Jon Jones agreed to do the fight,” Dana White said. “Jon Jones was offered the deal and accepted the deal.”

However, he noted challenges in finalizing the bout, indicating the process is ongoing.

Jones’ Legacy and Heavyweight Challenges

Jon Jones has a storied career in the UFC. The New Mexico native debuted in 2008, quickly rising to dominate the light heavyweight division with multiple title defenses. He moved to heavyweight in 2020, claiming the belt with a win over Ciryl Gane in 2023.
His reign has faced hurdles, including injuries and disputes. After defeating Stipe Miocic at UFC 309 in November 2024, Jones has delayed a unification fight with interim champion Tom Aspinall. His history of controlling his career path adds context to the current uncertainty.

Aspinall, the interim champion, has waited over 500 days for a title shot. White emphasized his commitment to the Brit.

“It’s Aspinall’s fight,” Dana White said at UFC 316 post-fight press conference. “I mean, we’ve been talking to this kid forever about it. It’s his fight. Listen, you can’t make people fight. If Jon doesn’t want to fight, we can’t make him fight. We can try to make him fight. We can throw things at him that want to inspire him to fight. We’ll figure it out. … I don’t have Ngannou under contract and Aspinall is the guy.”

Fans have voiced frustration over the delay, with a petition to strip Jones gaining traction. White dismissed the effort with humor.

“Every human on Earth was DMing it to me. I saw it. … How many fans are there worldwide? What’s the number? It’s 400 million or something like that? 130,000 people want to see him stripped. I’m not saying that, it’s just kind of f*cking silly,” Dana White said at UFC 316 post-fight press conference.

Rumors of a Francis Ngannou return have surfaced, but White shut them down.

“Eh, probably not,” Dana White said when asked about re-signing the former champion.

His focus remains on Aspinall, leaving Ngannou’s UFC future uncertain.
