Sophie Cunningham did not need a long audition to become part of UFC 329.
The Indiana Fever guard made a surprise walk with the round card before Paddy Pimblett faced Benoit Saint Denis in the co-main event at T-Mobile Arena. The cameo looked like a planned broadcast wrinkle from the outside, but Dana White said it came together almost on the spot.
Speaking at the UFC 329 post-fight press conference, White said the decision happened only minutes before Cunningham stepped into the role.
“About eight minutes before she did it,” White said. “I love Sophie Cunningham. We’ve created a relationship and she was here tonight. And when she walked in, she goes, ‘Oh, I want to walk around that.’ I said, ‘Then you’re going to walk around it.'”
The official UFC post showed Cunningham carrying the card before the Pimblett vs. Saint Denis fight.

Sophie Cunningham Says UFC 329 Cameo Was ‘So Much Fun’
Cunningham later told reporters the request started casually after White came over to say hello. She said she had gone to her first live UFC event that night, then joked with White that she was available if the promotion needed another ring card girl.
“I went to my first live fight last night, which was so cool,” Cunningham said. “The main fight was little, but the whole experience overall was wonderful.”
“Dana came over to say what’s up, and I was like, ‘Hey, you need a ring girl? Let me know,'” Cunningham said. “He’s like, ‘All right, first round for the Paddy fight. That’s you.’ I’m like, ‘Yeah.’ He’s like, ‘No, seriously.'”
“It was so much fun, though,” Cunningham said. “It was a great environment.”
“At the end of the day, you hold a card up and you turn left,” Cunningham added. “Hopefully I could do that. But the girls, actually the ring girls, the real ones, they were helping me.”
Cunningham also framed the moment as part of the wider attention around the WNBA and said those crossover openings are worth taking when the schedule allows it.
“I think that’s part of where the WNBA is, that people want us to be involved and are giving us those opportunities,” Cunningham said. “Anytime we can go and support another sport, and our schedule’s brutal, we really don’t get to do a lot of stuff. And so when we do have a couple days to team bond or go do stuff that is fun and extracurricular, of course we’re going to say yes to that.”

From Fever Guard To UFC 329 Cameo
Cunningham has become one of the WNBA’s most visible personalities since joining the Indiana Fever after a trade from Phoenix. Her role beside Caitlin Clark, plus the viral pointing moment that followed a heated exchange involving DeWanna Bonner, made the UFC crossover feel less random than it first looked. White already knew her, the Fever were in Las Vegas during the UFC 329 weekend, and the short-notice idea fit the loose celebrity-heavy feel around the card.
After the main event, Cunningham also shared a quick moment with Max Holloway, who beat Conor McGregor when McGregor’s knee gave out early in the first round. UFC posted the two recreating their pointing gestures inside the Octagon.

White spent much of the post-fight press conference dealing with McGregor’s injury fallout, including the early ACL concern and his later defense of McGregor’s pre-fight condition, but the Cunningham question briefly turned the room back toward one of the lighter surprises from the card.
