The UFC president shoots down a potential fight between Nick Diaz and Kamaru Usman, rightfully so.
When the leader of the Diaz Army came out and said he wanted to fight the pound-for-pound best fighter in the UFC, everybody rolled their eyes but, at the same time, became slightly curious. Big John McCarthy even went on his podcast and said Usman would be forced to use his wrestling because Diaz would light him up.
Well, that wild fantasy matchup was denied by Dana White this week.
Dana is looking out for Nick Diaz.
Speaking with Yahoo Sports, White says he doesn’t want to see Diaz get hurt.
“You think I should make Nick vs. Usman? Talking about Nick Diaz vs. Usman is, Usman is the pound-for-pound best fighter in the world. I need to look out for Nick and make sure Nick doesn’t get hurt,” White said. “I don’t want to see Nick Diaz get hurt.”
It is a very fair point from the UFC president. Diaz is currently on a three-fight losing streak with a no-contest and hasn’t won a fight since 2011.
When asked if he is entertaining a Diaz return this year, White wasn’t aware of anything and ended the interview saying, “I put on fights with the best fighters in the world, and how old is Nick?”
Diaz vs. Brown?
According to Diaz, he is planning a return to the octagon in late 2022. While he won’t get a fight with Usman, a fight with Matt Brown is just sitting there, ready to be made.
