Dana White: “Nicco Montano Is Not UFC Women’s Flyweight Champion Anymore!”

Dana White Stated UFC Stripped Nicco Montano Of The UFC Women’s Flyweight Title After Unsuccessful UFC 228 Weight Cut

Nicco Montano withdrew from the co-main event of UFC 228 versus Valentina Shevchenko due to kidney problems. But she lost a lot more than a monetary reward. According to Dana White, Nicco Montano is not UFC Women’s Flyweight champion anymore. White says the belt is vacated at the moment. (via MMAMania.com)

“The belt becomes vacated,” White said in an interview with Megan Olivi on the FOX Sports 1 UFC 228 weigh-in show (shown above). “So, the title is vacated. Obviously, Shevchenko is dying to fight for this title. So we’re in the process right now of trying to make another fight.”

Nicco Montano won UFC Flyweight championship at The Ultimate Fighter 26 Finale. She fought Roxanne Modafferi on December 1, 2017, and won the match via unanimous decision. Valentina Shevchenko defeated Priscila Cachoeira at UFC Fight Night 125 on February 3, 2018. This victory gave her a chance for the title match. For now, The Bullet remains the first in line for the vacated belt.

Dana White only said the fight for UFC Women’s Flyweight belt should be taken “before the end of the year”. Yet, he didn’t specify the date. Darren Till passed the weight, so Woodley Vs Till remains the main event of UFC 228.
