Dana White Suggests McGregor Is Ready To Fill In For Khabib or Poirier

Conor McGregor may not have anything lined up yet, in terms of a UFC return. However, if you ask Dana White, he may just be looking for a short notice opportunity.

McGregor has not competed since his UFC 229 fight with Khabib Nurmagomedov. In a losing bid, McGregor was dominated en route to a fourth round submission. Since then, there has been plenty of talk and rumors, surrounding what his return fight could be.

At the UFC 240 post-fight press conference, UFC President Dana White was asked about such a thing. However, when asked for an update on McGregor, and if White had spoken to him, he had some interesting things to say.

“Yeah, I talked to him last week. he wants to come back Really, what he’s doing is looking to see how everything plays out in September. I was just thinking out there, as of right now, Khabib and Poirier are fighting. You know how this business works, anything can happen and usually does. So I think he’s just sort of waiting to see how it all plays out and does he have an opportunity somewhere to jump in and make something happen.”

Paul Felder has already stated his intent to make championship weight, in case something happens to the main event at UFC 240. However, if White is to be believed, McGregor is eyeing for that spot. It seems unlikely that the UFC would book Conor on extremely short notice, for his first fight since last year. However, stranger things have happened.

What do you think of the recent comments of Dana White? Is McGregor primed for a short notice rematch with either Dustin Poirier or Khabib Nurmagomedov?
