Dana White, president of the UFC, has warned fans against illegally pirating his events.

UFC president Dana White has spearheaded a campaign to crack down on illegal streaming of pay-per-view UFC events. As part of BT Sport’s standard subscription, fans in the UK can legally watch the fights, while fans in the US must also purchase any pay-per-view events.

Many UK fans are only charged extra for major fights, including the PPV fights of UFC cash cow Conor McGregor, who last fought in July. According to White, streaming the events is a way of stealing from the fighters.

White has reportedly been frustrated for some time with illegal streaming of the UFC’s pay-per-views, and the promotion seems to have taken steps to address the issue.

While speaking with GQ Sports, White was asked all kinds of questions ranging from YouTuber Jake Paul to who he considers to be his “goat” and many more.

“I care about [the pay-per-views] dummy,” White said in regards to illegal streaming of UFC events in an interview with GQ. “That’s how everybody makes their money. You’re b****ing about fighters not making enough money – they get a piece of the pay-per-view revenue. People who steal it are stealing it from us and them.

“And what happens to people who steal? You get f***ing smashed and you go to jail that is what happens to you, and I make sure that we get you. Everybody was f***ing laughing when I was talking about this but we caught a lot of people. People weren’t laughing when they got caught, and I had a lot of people begging me not to prosecute them but stealing is stealing.”

Throughout his continued tenure as president of the UFC, White has consistently discussed the increase of illegal streaming of events and has expressed an intent to make an example out of anyone who attempts to steal from him. After one fan publicly announced that he was streaming the fight on social media, White decided to go after that individual.

White confirmed several illegal streams have been caught as a result of the promotion’s aggressive stance. White claims that the promotion has spent a lot of money on the crackdown.

“We’ve been working on piracy since day one. It’s one of the things we focused on,” he said. “It’s an important thing to stop in this business, so we’ve spent tonnes of money on this stuff. We just got some real important legislature done on piracy this year, these guys are bad guys.”

What do you think about Dana White’s efforts to catch illegal pirates?
