Dana White Provides Promising Update On Max Holloway’s Health

UFC featherweight champion who pulled out of his scheduled title defense bout against Brian Ortega at UFC 226 due to concussion-like symptoms, admitted to the hospitalized before the showdown. There has been a lot of concerns looming around his health; some suggested he got a stroke related to his severe weight cut.

The concussion-like symptom is a scary situation; it can put an athlete’s life in jeopardy or put a permanent full stop to their career.

“He’s good,” White said. “He’s doing well. They gave him a time frame. I’d actually like to wait a little longer on his time frame and make sure that he’s 100 percent. I don’t know yet (what the time frame is).”

Also, there were reports of Holloway suffered a stroke, his team adamantly shut down the rumors and White who don’t know the exact nature of what went wrong, said ‘Blessed’ is improving. UFC head boss also mentioned he’s not looking for a 145-pound interim title fight that indicates that they expect Holloway will be back in Octagon in the not too distant future.

“There was no stroke,” White said. “It either had to do with concussion – either a concussion, or they believe it happened to him because he was cutting weight at that time. We still don’t know for sure. But we know he’s doing OK, he’s healthy, and he’s doing a lot better.”

Holloway, 26, is riding a 12-fight win streak. White prefers to give champion some more time to recover before he returns to the Octagon.

“What I want to do is have him take some time off,” White said. “Here’s the problem: No matter how far away you book a fight, I’m worried about him starting to spar. I don’t want him to do any of that stuff until it’s absolutely necessary. I want to give him more time. There is no time frame. I just want this kid to be healthy.”

Let’s say if Holloway return by the end of this year, there is a possibility that Ortega can still get a title shot against him.
