Dana White is open to the idea of Nate Diaz fighting in Salt Lake City.

As the world recovers from the pandemic, live sporting events are finding their foothold again. UFC has been putting on the leading sports broadcast shows and events even during the troubling times and has gained a considerable amount of fans since. The promotion hosted numerous shows in Texas and Florida due to the easing restrictions.

Now, Salt Lake City, Utah serves as the next destination spot for a title fight, and possibly the return of a big star.

Nate Diaz could be on the card at UFC 278

During a press conference for UFC 278, the company president Dana White expressed his excitement at coming to the city. Local fans are thrilled to get the chance to experience a live MMA event that features a highly-anticipated match between Kamaru Usman and Leon Edwards.

Fan-favorite Nate Diaz has been on ice for over a year with his latest bout coming against Edwards last June. Diaz has been involved in a bitter feud with the UFC regarding contract issues. The Stockton native even took a leak outside the UFC Headquarters as a sign of rebellion.

White was asked about the possibility of Diaz fighting on the card, White stated that it could still be possible.

“Yeah, that could happen. Yeah, he could end up on this card. I didn’t say he is, I said he could.”

Dana White says Kamaru Usman is the greatest welterweight ever

Current pound-for-pound king Kamaru Usman has put on sensational performances during his reign as the 170 lbs champion. He lapped past top contenders like Colby Covington and Jorge Masvidal, beating them both twice. ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ has looked unstoppable and drawn comparisons to arguably the greatest welterweight in the history of the UFC, Georges St-Pierre.

When asked to share his thoughts on the main event, White talked about Usman’s dominance and went further to call him the greatest in the division.

“I don’t know if anybody’s a big threat for Kamaru Usman. Kamaru Usman’s the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world and he’s the greatest welterweight ever. All Canadians are going to go crazy but listen, it’s hard to deny now this guy is the greatest welterweight ever.

“If you look at what he’s accomplished. Now, he’s starting to lap guys, he’s beating guys twice.”

It’s hard to make an argument for Usman as the greatest ever given what GSP managed to achieve as champion. ‘Rush’ even added another division’s strap to his collection after beating Michael Bisping in November 2017.
