Conor McGregor still does not have a fight booked, but Dana White says the former two-division champion is at least moving in the right direction.
Speaking after UFC Winnipeg, White gave a direct update on the stalled comeback and kept it short.
“It’s looking good,” White said. “Believe me, you know once we get a deal done with him, we will announce it.”

That leaves the situation pretty simple. White sounds optimistic, but the UFC still has not announced a fight, named an opponent, or confirmed that a deal is finished. It is a more upbeat version of the same story White told recently when he said McGregor’s return was still nowhere close.
Conor McGregor is still chasing his first UFC fight since 2021
If McGregor does fight again this year, it will be his first UFC appearance since July 2021, when he suffered a broken leg in his trilogy loss to Dustin Poirier. He is also trying to end a two-fight skid after losing to Poirier in back-to-back outings.
The comeback was already supposed to happen once before. McGregor had been lined up to face Michael Chandler in 2024, but that plan fell apart after McGregor revealed he had suffered a broken toe. More recently, White also shot down the idea that McGregor was part of the UFC White House card chatter, making it clear those rumors were not real either.
His résumé is why every legitimate update still carries weight. McGregor is a former featherweight and lightweight champion, and he remains the first fighter in UFC history to hold two titles at the same time.
There are still moving parts around the comeback. McGregor recently settled his lawsuit with Artem Lobov over the Proper No. 12 sale, and Max Holloway has already been mentioned as a possible option for the return fight. For now, White’s quote is the real update. Talks are moving in the right direction, but the UFC is waiting for a finished deal before making anything official.
