UFC Boss Dana White Claims The Destiny Of Conor McGregor Will Be Decided After UFC 242
It seems there will be some major changes in Lightweight division between UFC 238 and UFC 242. Number 2-ranked Tony “El Cucuy” Ferguson (24-3 MMA, 14-1 UFC) will square off against No. 4-ranked Donald “The Cowboy” Cerrone (36-11, 1 NC MMA, 23-8 UFC) this weekend (Saturday, June 8, 2019), inside United Center in Chicago, Illinois.
The winner of Ferguson Vs Cerrone could be the next in line for the 155-pound title shot. The unified Lightweight match between Khabib Nurmagomedov and Dustin Poirier is slated for September 7, in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.
But what happens if No. 3-ranked Conor McGregor is interested in another crack at Khabib Nurmagomedov? Well, Dana White claims everything will be decided after the UFC 242 PPV (pay-per-view) event, but leaves the rematch possibility open.
“Conor wants the rematch with Khabib,” UFC president Dana White told ESPN’s SportsCenter (via MMA Fighting). “All these guys have been fighting, again, this thing’s going to play out this weekend and then Sept. 7 in Abu Dhabi, and then we’ll figure out what’s next for Conor. I absolutely could [see a rematch].”
Dana White initially planned Conor McGregor’s return this summer, but all major cards from now until September are booked. “The Notorious” is back in the gym. Yet, it is hard to expect he’ll step inside the cage before October.
“He’s training,” Dana White said about McGregor. “Obviously we’ll sit back and we’ll watch how this whole thing plays out with these fights and see where Conor fits in and what he wants to do next.”
We can only sit and wait for September 7th. “The Diamond” could upset “Eagle”, you never know. Would you like to see Khabib Nurmagomedov Vs Conor McGregor 2?
