We could be set to see Colby Covington back in action.
Covington last competed in March when he enjoyed a lopsided unanimous decision victory over bitter rival Jorge Masvidal.
It’s been over five months since with no word on who Covington will face next or even return for that matter. Claims of injuries following an attack from Masvidal may have also contributed to the lack of news.
Until now.
UFC president Dana White was recently asked about a potential return for “Chaos” and provided an update.
“Yeah, Colby wants to fight, he’s ready to fight,” White said after the latest Contender Series episode (via MMA News). “We’re making plans for him here soon.”
Who Could Colby Covington Face Next?
Right now, Covington is in limbo.
Following his win over Masvidal, he called for another grudge match with former training partner Dustin Poirier.
However, it seems Poirier is likely to face Michael Chandler next.
As for the welterweight division, all the contenders are booked up. Kamaru Usman will likely face new champion Leon Edwards in a trilogy fight.
Khamzat Chimaev, meanwhile, is set to face Nate Diaz at UFC 279 next month while Gilbert Burns and Masvidal seem destined to clash next.
It will certainly be interesting to see who Covington ends up facing next.
