If Fate had a corporeal form I’d kick it straight in the stones for what it’s done to Shane Del Rosario. Back in 2011 a drunk driver hit his car from behind, resulting in an herniated disc. Later, he suffered his first loss in the UFC after being matched up with Stipe Miocic at short notice due to a reshuffling of the card thanks to Overeem’s testosterone issue. Now, he’s been taken into hospital after reportedly suffering two heart attacks.
The official line from his manager was released shortly after the news broke on Twitter via a former college basketball teammate a few hours ago:
“Shane had a catastrophic cardiovascular collapse at home on Tuesday morning. He was brought to the hospital in full cardiac arrest. He was resuscitated in the emergency room back to a stable heart rhythm and blood pressure. He is currently in the coronary care unit critically ill. Our prayers are with him and his family.”
It doesn’t seem right that a 30 year old, 11-2 UFC fighter and former WMC Heavyweight champion suffered from something like a heart attack. I’m not quite down for praying, but if I was I’d be praying to Odin that he doesn’t take del Rosario to Valhalla quite yet. Get well soon Shane.
