At some point in 2010, I had a 45-minute conversation with a guy in Amsterdam, insisting that Cung Le vs. Anderson Silva would be a competitive match-up. He thought I was off my rocker, I made fun of his mother, and the entire fiasco ended up with him buying me a drink and both of us agreeing that every cast member of Jackass would be dead in five years. There, take that for a non sequitur but true story. Melvin Manhoef would be another viable option for Cung Le, but for some unforeseen reason that fight was never assembled despite multiple attempts throughout 2009-2010. Now it appears that Cung Le wants to end his career in a spectacular striking fest and wouldn’t mind taking on Chris Leben at UFC 138.
“I would like to have a couple fights in the UFC…I’m one of those guys that, if it’s going to be an exciting fight and a good matchup for the fans to watch, let’s get it on. I have nothing to prove, so I’m down to fight anyone if it’s going to be exciting for the fans to watch…Right now, it’s all up to the UFC…I’m ready to get back in the cage and give it all I got before I am done. If it all goes right, I’m sure the fans will be happy with my performances.”
“Ever since I heard that Cain [Velasquez] was going to be fighting in San Jose [at UFC 138]. I would love to be on the same card.”
“You know, on Yahoo! Sports, there is a Cung Le vs. Leben thread if there was a cross promotion. Like I said, if the fans think it is an exciting fight for them to watch, I’m all for it.”
The chance of this bout taking place is microscopic. We’re talking nanobot size. Maybe even the size of a couple of quarks randomly fluxing throughout the quantum mechanical world. Don’t get your hopes up high, and if you do, make sure they have miniature parachutes to come back to reality. [Source]
