Dominick Cruz is staying positive following his latest setback.
Cruz took on Marlon “Chito” Vera in the UFC San Diego headliner this past weekend in a bantamweight contest that took place in the former’s hometown.
Despite having many good moments and winning the first two rounds on the judges scorecards, Cruz would eventually eat a flush head kick that seemingly broke his nose and faceplanted him in the fourth round.
It didn’t take long for Vera to pounce before referee Herb Dean stepped in and stopped the contest.
It was the first time Cruz had been taken out so comprehensively in that manner in what was his third defeat in his last five outings.
Dominick Cruz: Thankful For My Health
Even with the setback, Cruz was later seen at his afterparty.
And on Monday, the former bantamweight king issued a statement as he remains in positive spirits. He’s already looking forward to getting back on commentary next month.
“I’m grateful to all of you who came out on Saturday, and for all the love and support here! The body feels great and I’m thankful for my health. I’ll be seeing you all next up on September 10th at the desk”
Cruz’s defeat to Vera snapped a two-fight winning streak following his wins over Casey Kenney and Pedro Munhoz last year. It remains to be seen what will be next for “The Dominator.”
