Dateline somewhere in the Republic of Croatia. Riding a two fight winning streak heading into his return to the UFC, footage has emerged of Pride FC legend Mirko Cro Cop beating up a guy inside a kickboxing ring. Posting a 1-1 record under the Glory promotional banner in 2014, the 40 year old Cro Cop was due for a tune-up fight in early 2015.
In what appears to be an open-weight bout, Cro Cop’s opponent walks to the center of the ring with his hands down and a sugary lollipop in his mouth. Not intimidated by some random guy sucking on a sticky treat, Cro Cop unloads multiple unchecked head and body shots on an opponent without any sort of technical prowess.
After three rounds of action the camera pans to a crying woman in the crowd before the decision. In what may go down as the biggest robbery of 2015 the unidentified man is not only awarded a controversial decision but also receives what appears to be a poorly constructed homemade championship belt. Reporters on the scene were unable to get comment from Cro Cop after his latest professional setback. Crying woman in crowd may have bet her life savings on a Cro Cop win.
At press time the UFC still plans to move forward with a previously scheduled Cro Cop versus Gabriel Gonzaga headlined Fight Night in April. Hopefully the world’s top MMA promotion will fly in their own handpicked judges to avoid the type of “corrupt” decisions that have plagued the sport of kickboxing from entering the holy grounds of the Octagon ™.
