UFC 222 has finally found the main event after all the mess.
Cris Cyborg, a women’s flyweight champion will face newcomer former Invicta FC bantamweight champ Yana Kunitskaya in the main event of UFC 222 on the March 3. The news first broke from MMA Fighting’s Ariel Helwani.
There are deals in place to have Cris Cyborg vs. Yana Kunitskaya for the women’s 145 belt headline UFC 222 on 3/3 w/ Frankie Edgar vs. Brian Ortega as the co-main, per multiple sources. Not 100% finalized but that’s the current direction and it’s looking promising at the moment.

The main card lost, as featherweight champion, Max Holloway got injured his leg and pulled out of his scheduled title bout with former lightweight champion Franke Edgar.
UFC tried to book bantamweight champ T.J. Dillashaw against former teammate Cody Garbrandt in a rematch as the new main event, but Dillashaw turned the offer down.
UFC also finalized a non-title fight co-main event between top featherweights Frankie Edgar and Brian Ortega, per the report.
Edgar was supposed to challenge Holloway at UFC 218 last December, but he pulled out of the card due to an injury. He has won two in a row with wins over Yair Rodriguez and Jeremy Stephens. Brain Ortega stretched his record to a perfect 13-0 back in December when he bested Cub Swanson.
Cris Cyborg successfully defended her title against former bantamweight champ Holly Holm back in December and won the bout via unanimous decision.
Meanwhile, Kunitskaya has not fought since she won the vacant Invicta title back in August when she faced Raquel Pa’aluhi and won that fight via unanimous decision.
Are you guys excited to see Cris Cyborg back again?
