Cris Cyborg will be returning to Bellator after testing free agency.

It has been almost one full year exactly since Cris Cyborg last stepped foot in the Bellator cage. The longtime MMA legend decided to take some time away from Bellator to test herself in free agency. During that time she stayed busy talking to other promotions, seeing what else was out there, and trying her hand at boxing. 12 months later she has decided to once again sign with Bellator per a press release from the organization.

Back in 2019 when Cyborg parted ways with UFC she came to Bellator and immediately began to dominate. She immediately won the Bellator women’s featherweight championship and went on to defend it four times. She is excited to continue her reign with a couple of new contenders waiting in the wings.

Cris Cyborg has re-signed with Bellator following her boxing debut

Cyborg has joined the club of MMA fighters making a move to boxing. She has had two boxing matches so far, both wins. However successful she may be inside the squared circle, Cyborg has never ruled out a return to MMA. Now she will continue her journey in Bellator

“After receiving multiple offers from several promotions I’m very happy that I was able to come to terms with Bellator and remain the face of their women’s featherweight division,” she said in a press realese. “Scott Coker is a promoter that I’ve worked with and respected for many years. He’s done so much to further women’s MMA and give us a platform to showcase our skills. When making this decision, it was important to me that I was signing with the organization that I felt had the biggest names and the top talent at 145 pounds for me to challenge myself against. There is no question that all the top female featherweights are signed with BELLATOR and I can’t wait to get back in there and defend my belt.”

For a while, Cyborg has been looking for a possible matchup with former PFL champion Kayla Harrison. It seemed perhaps that she would be interested in signing with PFL, but that is no longer the case. Cyborg will continue to defend her featherweight Bellator title against possible contenders such as former UFC fighters Sarah McMann and Cat Zingano. The fight with Zingano has been talked about for a while now and seems like the most likely option. However, a date for her return fight has not yet been set.
