Cris Cyborg Still Targeting Rematch With Amanda Nunes: ‘Maybe In A Different Organization’

Bellator women's featherweight champion Cyborg is still targeting a rematch with Nunes over two years on from their first meeting.

Cris Cyborg is still looking to run things back with Amanda Nunes.

The Bellator women’s featherweight champion lost her UFC featherweight title to Nunes after suffering a first-round knockout defeat in their UFC 232 clash back in December 2018.

Cyborg was looking for an immediate rematch soon after, however, no agreement was made. Eventually, she outpointed Felicia Spencer to run out her UFC contract and eventually join Bellator.

Cyborg has remained undefeated since as she captured the Bellator 145-pound strap against Julia Budd and defended it three times since.

Cris Cyborg On Nunes Rematch: You Never Know In The Future

Cyborg is set to return to action at Bellator 279 in Hawaii later this month as she faces Arlene Blencowe in a rematch.

However, the rematch with Nunes is still on her mind as Cyborg believes a fight with her fellow compatriot will happen down the line.

“Yes, of course!” Cris Cyborg told TMZ Sports. “In the beginning after the loss, I said I want the rematch. But, you know, we don’t [make a] deal together, and we don’t like to – don’t deal with, or make that happen – but you never know, you never know in the future. Only God knows.

“For sure [we will fight in the future], maybe in a different organization, maybe we’re gonna make the fight happen, I don’t know.”

As things stand, a second fight remains unlikely with Cyborg contracted to Bellator and Nunes still under contract with the UFC as the bantamweight champion.

However, it can certainly happen in a few years should the stars align.
