Cris Cyborg Gives Up on Making it to Bantamweight

This feels like it was a long-time coming and something that we all kind of expected, but newsflash: Cris “Cyborg” Justino will not be making 135lbs. This means, by proxy, that she will not be fighting Ronda Rousey or making it to the UFC any time soon, either. For some this will be a bummer, but for most of us this comes as no surprise.

Cyborg hasn’t given up the dream of fighting Ronda Rousey in the UFC just yet, but she seems steadfast in the fact that the UFC doesn’t have her weight class so it isn’t the place for her to be. Cyborg is probably the most recognizable name in Women’s MMA outside of Ronda Rousey or Gina Carano at this point and the UFC seems unable to make bouts including Carano or Cyborg. It might be time to just let that whole thing go and to move on.

Cyborg was preparing for her first trip down to Bantamweight earlier this month when she was forced to pull out of her fight due to an ankle injury, although this kind of makes it seem like she couldn’t do it anyway.
