Nate Diaz will appear in from of a judge in New Orleans following his street fight.

A few weeks ago, former UFC fighter Nate Diaz found himself in some hot water. The Stockton native was in New Orleans attending the fight of his friend and training partner when he was involved in a street fight. Diaz is no stranger to public altercations but this time he might be in over his head. The man he was involved with is named Rodney Petersen, a look-alike of Logan Paul. Petersen, along with a few friends was involved in this fight outside the venue with Diaz and others.

Diaz appeared to choke Petersen unconscious and was later charged with second-degree battery. A warrant was put out for his arrest following the incident. He later turned himself in to the police and has been cooperating since. Now there is a date set for his plea.

Nate Diaz will enter a plea for the charges against him in New Orleans

Diaz is set to appear in court for a preliminary court hearing on June 27 at 3 p.m. local time in New Orleans. Diaz was released on a $10,000 bond following his arrest and has since returned home to California. The charges against him are considered to be felony level in Louisiana and carry a sentence of a maximum of eight years in prison “with or without hard labor” and/or up to a $2,000 fine according to MMA Fighting. After turning himself in representatives of Diaz released a statement.

“Nate’s attorney looks forward to presenting all of the facts about this incident to the District Attorney which clearly demonstrates that a trained fighter named Rodney Petersen aggressively pursued Nate with the intention of engaging him and once doing so, Nate acted entirely in self-defense.”

The former UFC fighter is set to make his boxing debut later this year when he takes on Jake Paul. It is unlikely that the outcome of this arrest and court case will affect the likelihood of that fight taking place. In fact, the incident, due to the nature of involving a Logan Paul lookalike, has fueled some added trash talk between the two. Most recently the pair were involved in a back-and-forth accusing each other of steroid usage.
