Ah, this is nice. One of those moments where you’re reminded why Dana White was named to the MiddleEasy Top Ten Altruistic Individuals of 2010. Despite the sudden 11th hour cancellation of Strikeforce: Melendez Vs. Healy this Saturday due to Gilbert’s popped out shoulder, MMAJunkie is reporting that Zuffa is going to be paying the fighters their ‘show’ money, which is totally cool, I think everyone can agree. I’ve never fought professionally (or unprofessionally?), but I will take Jon Jones’ word for it: training camps suck. So props to Zuffa for letting these guys know that all of the training and dieting wasn’t for naught.
And you know what? Zuffa didn’t even have to pay them. Normally promoters in California only have to pay the fighters a portion of their cash when a show is cancelled within 24 hours. What does this mean for your weekend? A little less MMA and maybe a willingness to do something nice for our fellow man I guess.
MMAJunkie caught up with the representation of Yuri Villefort and Jorge Santiago along with Josh Thomson via text. This is what they said about getting some paper sans throwing bungalows:
“I cannot give you amounts because the financials involved are private, but I can tell you that Zuffa is taking very good care of Jorge Santiago and Yuri Villefort,” said Jen Wenk.
