Conspiracy Theory Alert: Did Nick Diaz get jail time for DUI so he can sign with Bellator?

Nick Diaz is the chess player that is thinking four or five moves ahead of his opponent. Inside a locked cage with another human being this next level of game theory has served Diaz well. With post UFC 183 drama still swirling and when Diaz will fight again still in question, maybe the 31 year old Californian will have to go back to the drawing board for his next MMA career move.

What if the UFC cut ties with Diaz after TMZ reported Diaz will serve jail time for a DUI arrest?

From the TMZ Sports report

“As we previously reported, the 31-year-old fighter was arrested for DUI in Lodi, CA back in September … just one year after he was previously popped for DUI in the same city.

Diaz was facing real jail time if convicted in both cases — but struck a sweet plea deal with prosecutors in which he pled no contest to DUI with .08 or higher, and in exchange 3 charges were thrown out … including the second DUI.

He was sentenced to 2 days in jail — and gets credit for 1 day served … so he’ll be a free man in no time (props to Nick’s lawyer). “

If the UFC made an example out of Diaz and his recent legal plus athletic commission troubles, how quickly would Bellator pounce on the free agent? Some of Diaz’s best moments in his career came outside the UFC and under the promotion of Bellator prez Scott Coker.

One day in jail for a Diaz career revival? If you think about it, it could be closer to happening than you think.
