Conor McGregor will once again avoid jail time.
In March 2022, the Irish megastar was arrested and charged with “dangerous driving” in Dublin, prompting law enforcement to impound his $187,000 Bentley Continental.
According to The Irish Times, McGregor’s attorneys successfully lobbied for a suspended sentence, which includes a two-year ban on driving and a €5,000 fine. McGregor must also mind his Ps and Qs for the next 24 months as any further legal trouble in his home country could result in time behind bars.
“This is an appalling series of breaches of the road traffic rules and an appalling episode of dangerous driving,” said Judge David McHugh at Blanchardstown District Court. “It is appropriate to meet this matter by way of a suspended sentence, and only just.”
Per a report from MMA Mania, the proceedings revealed that McGregor had 20 prior convictions, including 17 traffic offenses [three for speeding], two public order charges, and one conviction for assault causing harm.
It’s certainly not the first time McGregor has seen his driving privileges revoked. In 2018, ‘Mystic Mac’ was slapped with a six-month ban and fined €1,000.
It looks like McGregor will have to let someone else enjoy his fleet of luxury cars for the next couple of years.
Conor McGregor Rumored to Return in December at Canceled UFC 303 Scrap
McGregor was scheduled to make his “greatest comeback in combat sports history” in June, headlining UFC 303 with former Bellator MMA champion Michael Chandler. Unfortunately, McGregor would bow out of the bout after breaking his pinky toe while training.
Since then, reports have emerged that December is being targeted for the rescheduled scrap, though UFC CEO Dana White has remained coy every time the subject comes up. In the last eight years, McGregor only has one win on his record—a 40-second shellacking of Hall of Famer Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone in 2020.
