  • Conor McGregor hinted at a possible showdown against Michael Chandler after the latter called him out
  • Charles Oliveira got a response from McGregor for his call out as well

In one of the most stacked cards of the year, Michael Chandler stole the show with a Knockout of the Year contender. Another historic moment followed his win when Charles Oliveira won the fight but had to vacate his title in the ring. Both men took the chance to call out Conor McGregor and he has responded.

Conor McGregor hints at possible fight with Chandler

After a sensational win over Tony Ferguson at UFC 274, Chandler took the opportunity to call out the biggest draw in the sport. In one of the most hyped post-fight interviews, ‘Hammer’ expressed his willingness to fight against Conor McGregor at 170 lbs.

“Conor McGregor, you have to come back and fight somebody.”

“I am the most entertaining lightweight on the planet, but I’ll up the stakes, Conor. I want you at your biggest. I want you at your baddest and at your best. You and me at 170 this summer, this fall, this winter. Holla at your boy.”

‘The Notorious’ took to Twitter to share his message in a now-deleted tweet. He seems game for a potential showdown down the road.

“I’d have a nice knock off this guy, no doubt about it. A firework spectacle. I like the 170 shout also. Tipped him over. I’m definitely game to fight this guy at some stage in my career. I see it happening after tonight. Congrats on a solid win Michael and another barnstormer.”

McGregor responds to Oliveira’s callout

Going into the fight knowing he can’t come out the champion, Charles Oliveira secured a statement win over Justin Gaethje. Having won the contest and been forced to vacate his title for missing weight by half a pound, Oliveira set his sights ahead to call out McGregor.

“I went into the octagon to defend the title,” Oliveira said at UFC 274 post-fight presser. “I don’t have to get it back. The champion is Charles Oliveira, and we all know that.”

There is no shortage of contenders, from Islam Makhachev to Beneil Dariush to Dustin Poirier to Michael Chandler, or maybe even Conor McGregor, as Oliveira mentioned postfight.

“I said upstairs that Conor McGregor would be a good fight,” Oliveira said. “When I was No. 7 in the rankings, I called these guys out and none of them paid attention to me. So let the matchmakers choose. The name is Charles Oliveira, and that won’t change.”

‘The Notorious’ has been rumored to get a title shot in his return to the octagon but has seemingly fizzled out talks of a fight against Oliveira.

“I’m not sure I wish to cut the weight. I am really enjoying being built like a refrigerator. I feel I want to fight at this size just to watch it back lol. But I’d love to fight the Brazilian, 100%! I love Brazil and I’m unbeaten against Brazil. All KO’s. I’ve some thinking to do.”

A match against ‘do Bronx’ would be a stylistic nightmare for the Irish superstar. While he has expressed interest in a fight against Kamaru Usman, he would have a much better chance against Chandler.
