Conor McGregor vs. Max Holloway is not just another UFC 329 fight-week circus. Front Office Sports reported Friday that UFC 329 has become a record-setting weekend in Las Vegas, with Dana White saying the card hit a $25 million gate at T-Mobile Arena.

That clears the old UFC gate mark from UFC 306 at Sphere, which grossed $21.8 million. The ticket market is acting like everybody suddenly found money under the couch cushions too. The cheapest seat was listed at $902 on SeatGeek as of Friday morning, while TickPick had the average ticket price at $1,537.

McGregor has been away since UFC 264 in July 2021, when his trilogy fight with Dustin Poirier ended with a broken left tibia and fibula. Now he is back against Holloway, and the business side is doing exactly what McGregor business usually does. It turns a fight card into a cash register with a cage in the middle.

McGregor’s Return Is Turning UFC 329 Into A Business Monster

The streaming piece may be just as important as the arena money. UFC Freedom 250 drew 17 million viewers in the United States and Latin America, averaged 8.2 million across those markets on Paramount+, and reached 34 million globally. UFC 329 now has the kind of main event that can test whether McGregor still moves the audience needle the way he used to.

The early signs are not exactly subtle. Thursday’s UFC 329 press conference stream reportedly peaked around 233,000 viewers on YouTube, beating the press conference peaks for UFC 328 and UFC Freedom 250. A UFC spokesperson also said more than 7,000 fans showed up at T-Mobile Arena for the presser, which is ridiculous in the best possible fight-week way.

CBS is not simulcasting the fight, even after the new UFC and Paramount partnership changed the old pay-per-view math. The network is airing a one-hour Friday night special with ceremonial weigh-in coverage and a McGregor interview, but the fight itself stays on Paramount+. That puts a lot of weight on Saturday’s streaming number.

The fighter pay angle is part of this too. McGregor’s agent Audie Attar previously said the new deal hit “a historical number”, and Holloway has said this will be the biggest payday of his career. That is the McGregor effect in its purest form. Even after five years out, the guy still makes everybody around him richer.

Of course, the money does not throw a single punch. Holloway has been active, durable, and busy enough to make this a nightmare if McGregor cannot hurt him early. That is why the fight still has teeth beneath all the business talk, and why every prediction from Chael Sonnen’s quick-knockout read to Israel Adesanya’s Holloway pick has circled the same question. McGregor can still sell the building out. Saturday tells us whether he can still close the show once the door locks.
