Conor McGregor has filed a motion to overturn the result of his recent civil suit in Ireland. According to a report from TMZ Sports, McGregor filed an appeal with the courts last Friday to try and clear his name after a jury in November found him liable for the sexual assault of Nikita Hand at a Dublin hotel in 2018. Hand claimed that the former UFC champion had sex with her against her will after picking her up at a Christmas party.
Hand reported the alleged assault to Irish police in early 2019. After an investigation into the claim, police referred the case to Ireland’s Director of Public Prosecutions. The DPP decided not to criminally prosecute McGregor due to insufficient evidence. That’s when Hand filed a civil suit against McGregor and his friend, James Lawrence, who she also alleged raped her that same night.
The jury ultimately found she had been assaulted by McGregor, but not by Mr Lawrence. McGregor was ordered to pay $250,000 in damages and Hand’s legal fees which reportedly exceeded $1 million.

“On we fight!” McGregor wrote in a post on X hours after the jury made its decision. “Justice and truth will prevail! Appeal! Appeal! Appeal!”

In the days following the verdict, multiple businesses cut ties with McGregor, including Proximo Spirits, the company that purchased his Proper No. 12 brand of whiskey in 2021. McGregor was kept on as a spokesman before being found liable for rape.
McGregor’s longtime girlfriend and the mother of his four children, Dee Devlin, also stood by the UFC stars’ side and went after Hand in her own response to the ruling on social media.
“Imagine a WOMAN, with her own boyfriend and child, texting provocative pictures of herself to another woman’s man with a family and child on the way,” Devlin wrote. “This woman claims to know me, yet still went ahead and sent messages and pictures of herself over and over to my man? Really? Whilst out on a 3-day bender, texting excuses to her own child at home where mammy is on a Saturday afternoon, Saturday night, Sunday morning, Sunday afternoon, Sunday night night into Monday morning. All the while out of her face in a hotel room, dancing around a hotel carpark. What sort of WOMAN are you!!!
