The co main event of RAF 7 took place at the Yuengling Center in Tampa, Florida. The spotlight was on a crossover style wrestling clash between two very different competitors.
Colby Covington entered the match with a strong wrestling background. A former UFC interim welterweight champion and decorated collegiate wrestler, he has competed at a high level in folkstyle wrestling and previously showed dominance in his RAF debut.
Across from him stood Dillon Danis, a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu specialist known for his submission game and his public profile outside competition. This was his first appearance in RAF competition, making the matchup even more unpredictable on paper.
Period 1: Fast Exchanges and Constant Scrambles
The match started at a quick pace with Danis shooting early for a single leg attempt. Covington defended cleanly and immediately reversed position for an early scoring advantage.
Danis answered right back with a strong takedown of his own, briefly taking control and evening the score. The momentum shifted back and forth as both athletes traded push outs and short scrambles, neither able to maintain control for long.
Covington kept applying pressure through ties and quick re attacks, while Danis continued to look for entries from distance. By the end of the first period, the score was tightly contested, showing how competitive the grappling exchanges had become.
Period 2: Covington Takes Full Control
The second period was where Covington took over completely.
He immediately capitalized on Danis’ shots, countering with clean go behinds and turning them into repeated scoring sequences. Each exchange saw Covington gaining control faster and more efficiently, stacking up points through pressure and positioning.
Danis continued to shoot, but Covington consistently defended, circled, and turned every attempt into his own scoring opportunity. The gap widened quickly as Covington added multiple takedowns and exposure points.
Eventually, the pace and control became overwhelming, leading to a technical fall victory.
