UFC heavyweight Ciryl Gane is coming off one of the biggest wins of his career but injured his hand in the process.

UFC Paris was a historic event in many regards. It was the first time the UFC had held an event in France since the sport of mixed martial arts was legalized in the country. Also on this night, French heavyweight title contender Ciryl Gane scored a huge KO win in front of his home crowd. Gane proved that he is still one of the best in the heavyweight division and despite losing out in his title fight, he is still hungry for the belt.

After the event, Gane was thrust into title contention talks once again, but the top of the division is a bit crowded and unclear. The champion Francis Ngannou, who was in attendance at UFC Paris, is still recovering from knee surgery. He may be able to return in December but that is not yet official. Another man who is most likely fighting for a title next is Jon Jones. He is awaiting his heavyweight debut and could be taking on someone other than Ngannou for an interim title if the UFC plans it. So could Gane be the an to fight Jones for the interim title? Well, there are complications there as well.

Ciryl Gane needed to undergo surgery on his hand following his UFC Paris win

Following his win, Gane needed to undergo surgery to repair a break in his right hand. He discussed his surgery and timeline for recovery on The MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani

“The recovery is going to be maybe around, the final, is going to be a little bit less than the first doctor say and it’s going to be around maybe three months, three and a half or something like that,” he said.

Helwani mentioned that the UFC could be looking for a dance partner for Jon Jones in December, which would be right at the end of Gane’s recovery timeline but he isn’t ruling out a possibility if the offer is made.

“Yeah, it’s gonna be a little bit complicated maybe if I’m really crazy, and I’ll go ahead. I’m gonna go back to the gym in a few days, for conditioning, I think I’m gonna be okay. So maybe why not? We will see. We will see,” Gane explained. “Yes, of course. Because this is the whole package with Jon Jones if it is possible to do for the belt against Jon Jones. Yes, because this is a good matchup also. John Jones is a good matchup, because he hasn’t fought guys as big as I in the division. So that’s why.”

There are many factors that will go into seeing who will fight next for the UFC heavyweight belt. In the meantime, Gane will work on his recovery and will be making sure he is ready if and when he gets the call next. As for now, he is reeling in his glory following the KO win over Tai Tuivasa.
