Chris Weidman survives Vitor Belfort hand speed to retain

This card has been brilliantly violent. Horrifying at times, yes. But only if you really want to get introspective about it. What we just saw was yet another violent battle but this time the stakes were raised with the middleweight title in the middle of the Octagon, ready to be bled on.

The old lion, Belfort opened up with the old-school Vitor Belfort hand speed, and truly opened up on Weidman, sending him reeling but covering up wisely and expertly. Only when Weidman could take a breath did he step back, change levels and take Belfort down with ease. After that, he pounded him into oblivion for his third title defense.

Weidman always has been a hell of a good fighter, but now it can’t be denied, he’s elite and one of the absolute best in existence. If he racks up another few wins, he’ll be entering all-time territory. Truly incredible and brutal. He has total control no matter where he is.
