Chris Weidman is planning to get right back into his old form in his UFC return.
Chris Weidman is not afraid of testing out his newly healed leg in the Octagon
Upon hearing that Weidman plans on utilizing his formally broken leg in his next fight fans were a bit taken back. But Weidman explains that he has not returned to the UFC just to take part, he is returning to return to his true form and continue his quest to regain his lost UFC title.
“I face my fears. The first thing I’m doing in that fight against Brad’s Tavares is throw the hardest leg kick in my life,” he said on The MMA Hour. “Because it’s like no, it’s worth it. I think it’s important for me to like face, like to face your fears and like anything that you might be uncomfortable with. Just go ahead and do it.”
In addition to continuing his quest for UFC gold Weidman looks to right a few other wrongs in his career. He wants to finally get a win in New York. As a New York native, he has only won one time since the sport became legal in his home state. He wants to get a win over Tavares in August and immediately returned to the Octagon in November in Madison Square Garden.
“My main focus is fighting I want to try to get back into this fight and I’m not trying to have layoffs. I’m just trying to be as active as possible. I would love to fight this fight and then jump right back into fight again in November, York City, get on MSG, trying to get some redemption from the TD Garden Arena and also MSG,” he said.
Weidman lost his UFC championship belt back in 2015 and since then has only won two fights. He has his sights set on champion Israel Adesanya, and although he knows he is a ways away from getting that chance, thinks he could make it an exciting fight.
