Khamzat Chimaev believes Kamaru Usman has an ulterior motive in helping out Gilbert Burns.
Chimaev faces his biggest test yet when he faces Burns in a welterweight contest on the UFC 273 main card on Saturday night. Despite the difference in experience, Chimaev has no fear of Burns whatsoever as he plans on smashing him like the rest of his UFC opponents so far.
Burns, meanwhile, is confident in his own right, and is looking to end the hype train of Chimaev and reemerge as a title contender.”Durinho” is also notably being helped by current welterweight champion and former teammate and opponent Kamaru Usman in preparation for Chimaev.
Khamzat Chimaev Feels ‘Sorry’ For Usman & Burns
Of course, a win over Burns could more than likely hand Chimaev the next shot at Usman.
So what does he think of his potential next opponent helping out his current opponent?
“I feel sorry for both those guys,” Chimaev told TMZ. “I’m gonna smash the guy and punch his face and his best friend will be standing there in the corner and make him scared as well, ya know.”
‘He’s Afraid’
As for why Usman is helping Burns out?
“Of course, cause he’s afraid. They push him down under me, you know, because he’s scared, that’s why,” Chimaev said. “That’s why he wants to stop me before I come for him.”
Regardless if that’s the case, Chimaev will certainly be in a good position to challenge Usman next.
A win over Burns would likely insert himself as the #2 contender in the welterweight division. And at that point, Chimaev will no longer be denied.
“Of course. The guy number two in the division that’s why I smash him, what are they gonna do? After that, they have to fight me.”
