Khamzat Chimaev Edges Gilbert Burns In Absolute Slugfest – UFC 273 Results (Highlights)

A welterweight bout between Khamzat Chimaev and Gilbert Burns is taking place now (Saturday, Apr. 9, 2022) from inside VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville, Fla., at UFC 273.

Round 1

Chimaev with some front kicks. He goes for an overhand and clinches Burns. Chimaev partially lifts Burns up. However, Burns defends but gets dragged to the ground eventually. Burns scrambles and has Chimaev in his guard. Chimaev gets up and lands some leg kicks. The fight returns to the feet. Burns with a big calf kick. They exchange in the pocket and Burns looks like he took a big shot. However, he responds with a body kick. Burns connects with a nice right hand and follows it up with a jab. Chimaev with a combination on a shelled up Burns. Burns is still in this and landing shots. Chimaev stumbles on the ground after an exchange with Burns. Chimaev lands a leg kick soon after. He connects with a body kick. Chimaev drops Burns with a jab and starts to unload on the ground! Chimaev gets to his feet and the fight is on the feet again. Burns is still throwing and ends the round strong.

Round 2

Burns shoots and gets Chimaev down but lacks the control as Chimaev gets up right away. Burns with a big right hand that backs Chimaev up. Burns lands a body kick. Chimaev responds with a leg kick. Both fighters exchange in the pocket. Burns shoots but Chimaev defends the single leg. Burns clips Chimaev and Burns looks to finish the fight. However, Chimaev is still in it and responds with a one two. Chimaev eats a one two. Burns shoots but Chimaev sprawls. Burns push kicks Chimaev off. The momentum is with Burns as the crowd starts to chant his name. Burns rocks Chimaev with a right but Chimaev gets him down to end the round.

Round 3

Burns is jabbing Chimaev up and connecting a lot more. Burns eventually gets backed up to the fence. Burns shoots but Chimaev defends. Burns almost gets him down, but Chimaev scrambles and they separate. Both fighters are connecting now. Chimaev has Burns hurt though. Burns is shelling up and eating shots. Burns recovers but is fatigued as is Chimaev. They continue to strike nonetheless. Both fighters continue to have small spells of success when they land. Burns lands a huge right and cracks Chimaev after. Chimaev recovers and walks forward with strikes. Both fighters are swinging to end this. Chimaev with a flying knee attempt that sees Burns slip while avoiding it. What a fight!

Official Result: Khamzat Chimaev defeats Gilbert Burns via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28).
