It was the non-armbar heard around the world — or at least in Toronto on September 22nd 2012 at UFC 152. After Jon Jones single legged Belfort to the mat in the first round, Vitor Belfort grabbed Jones’ right wrist and managed to pull off a slick (and very tight) arm bar that had the champion on the verge of tapping. In a post-fight interview, Vitor Belfort claimed that he ‘eased up’ on the arm bar so that he wouldn’t break Jon Jones arm because they’re both ‘good Christians.’
Yeah, that makes about as much sense as an elbow mustache.
If only Las Vegas bookies factored in this unforeseen Christian element of the fight then the odds would have been just a tad different. Perhaps not. Belfort was already a heavy underdog going into UFC 152. So heavy in fact that people actually dropped cash on him defeating Jon Jones — like this guy in the video. Check out what happens when you have a large amount of money riding on an underdog, and at one moment in the fight it appears that your investment has finally paid off.
