The victory marks an important comeback for Oliveira, who was seeking redemption after his knockout loss to Ilia Topuria earlier this year at UFC 317. The Brazilian had gone 2–3 in his previous five fights, including losses to Islam Makhachev and Arman Tsarukyan, but his wins over Michael Chandler and Beneil Dariush had reminded fans of his elite skill set.
For Mateusz Gamrot, the defeat halted his momentum after a decision win over Ľudovít Klein earlier in the year.
