You gotta admit, not many people on this planet would take a fight against Shogun Rua on twelve-days notice — surely not Jon Jones as we’ve seen with UFC 151. This Chael Sonnen, fearlessly paving his way in MMA history by not giving a single [expletive] who and when he fights. The temporal and spatial have no meaning in Sonnen’s universe — Sonnen exists in one point of convergence like a singularity.
Last night it was reported that Lil Nog had to drop out of fight against Shogun Rua at UFC 161 in Manitoba, Canada due to a back injury. Things looked rather bleak until Chael Sonnen hopped on Twitter and started doing his usual ‘I’m an American Gangster, you’re a Brazilian weeny’ thing. At this point it may seem cliche, but Chael Sonnen talked his way into yet another fight, virtually rendering Joe Silva useless.
As first reported by Ivan Raupp of Brazil’s Combate, it appears that Chael Sonnen vs. Shogun Rua is official, according to Shogun Rua’s camp. Apparently this marks the first time in which a UFC main card fight was booked before each combatants even knew they were fighting. Amazing.
Once again, props to the American Gangster on his constant pursuit to battle Brazil in some jingoistic pursuit of world domination.
