Chael Sonnen says he would ‘knock Anderson Silva through the ropes’ in a boxing match

Well, according to Compustrike numbers Chael Sonnen did outstrike Anderson Silva 289 to 29. Granted, 270 of those strikes were from Silva’s guard, which still leaves nineteen unanswered strikes compared to fourteen that was landed by Anderson in the stand-up. This yields five more standing strikes than Anderson Silva at UFC 117, which by technical means, implies that Chael Sonnen outboxed Anderson Silva. Mathematically, it’s the truth. However, in this interview with FiveKnuckles, Chael Sonnen claims that Silva’s boxing skills are amateur at best and that if they were to fight in a boxing match, he would knock him through the ropes.

“I think everyone just needs to take the fight to him. Everyone always says Anderson’s such a great fighter, well who ever fought him? Who ever stepped in range and got in a fight with this guy? This guy can’t box. This guys boxing skills are amateur at best. I’d knock this guy through the ropes in a boxing match.

“So when I’m watching the tape of him, I said, ‘This is real simple. Get this guy in a fist fight, it’s the first one he’ll have ever been in.’ So I walked right across the ring and stuck a fist right in his teeth. And that’s the big difference. I don’t think anybody’s put a hand on him. They all stayed out of range and they all danced around. And that’s why they can’t take him down or hit him. His skills are fake. He is not a great striker. He’s a striker, he’s got some good reach and he’s pretty athletic, but he’s not some great striker. He couldn’t make an Olympic team in boxing or something like that. It’s just silly.”

If Chael Sonnen’s words could give birth to Vietnamese babies, the entire continent of Asia would be overpopulated. Remember, if you’re savvy enough you can still enter our Chael Sonnen baby onesie contest. The entries thus far are hands down incredible. [Source]
