Chael Sonnen confirms that he will fight Anderson Silva on August 7th

Chael Sonnen may very well be the first fighter to ever be sponsored by Fox News and all of you saw it coming. Dude nicknamed his fists ‘Fair’ and ‘Balanced’. Actually, I can’t take credit for that one. Josh Gross from Sports Illustrated somehow outwitted me one night…and I swear it will never happen again. If I had to explain the Tao of Chael Sonnen to an alien visiting earth for the first time, I would tell him/her/it that Chael Sonnen sort of looks like every dude you’ve ever ran over with a tank in Grand Theft Auto. Then, I would have to spend the next hour explaining to the alien what ‘Grand Theft Auto’ is before I realize that I’m talking to a friggin extraterrestrial being about videogames. Chael Sonnen wouldn’t have that problem. Dude probably lives by the republican motto of ‘Bag ’em, Tag ’em, and let Christian conservative Jesus sort them out’.

For those of you that don’t know, Chael Sonnen made the unpredictable leap of talking about being a republican and his abhorrence of pink sweaters when he appeared on Fox News to promote his political agenda (and hidden hatred of pink sweaters). Chael Sonnen is exactly what you think he is, the number one ranked Middleweight in the world according to Fight! Magazine. Just before the WEC 48 weigh-ins today, Ariel Helwani of MMAFighting.com poked and prodded Chael Sonnen long enough for him to tell the world (via Ustream) that he has signed the contract to fight Anderson Silva on August 7th. Chael is now waiting for Anderson Silva to sign his end of the deal. That would mean that Anderson Silva vs. Chael Sonnen will be going down at UFC 117 in Oakland, California and will also feature Matt Hughes vs. Ricardo Almeida. Props to Oakland for getting something besides a horrible football team next August.
