Chael Sonnen Believes BMF Title Is Gone: ‘Never Being Contested Again’

Sonnen believes the BMF title will no longer be contested for again following Jorge Masvidal's defeat to Colby Covington at UFC 272 last weekend.

Chael Sonnen believes we’ll never see the BMF title again.

The one-time title contested between Jorge Masvidal and Nate Diaz at UFC 244 back in November 2019 was to determine who the baddest motherf*cker in the UFC was.

Masvidal ended up winning that contest and has been referred to as the BMF on multiple occasions since.

However, “Gamebred” has yet to win a fight since actually becoming the BMF champion. He would get outpointed by Kamaru Usman in their short-notice welterweight title fight in 2020.

Usman would then knock him out in their rematch last year and proceeded to label himself as the new BMF champion.

Most recently, Masvidal was comfortably outpointed by Colby Covington in their welterweight grudge match at UFC 272 last weekend.

Chael Sonnen: BMF Title Is Never Being Contested Again

Although the BMF title wasn’t officially contested in those three fights, it’s hard to really claim Masvidal is the BMF champion when he’s now lost three fights in a row.

That is seemingly among the reasons why Sonnen is bothered by the fact that in his view, the BMF title is gone forever and will never be contested for again.

“The BMF is gone,” Sonnen said on a recent video on his channel. “I talked about this in an earlier piece and I had a bunch of comments of people saying, ‘Chael, tell us why the BMF is gone.’ I can’t tell ya, I’m not gonna get into it. I’m annoyed that it took me this long to see it. I generally see these things right upfront. I would then bring it to you. That bothers me, bothers me within myself that I missed but the BMF is gone.

“We never need to discuss it again. It’s never being contested again for multiple reasons and if I did explain them to what they are you would simply go, ‘Oh, how did we not see that?’”

In reality, the BMF title was only a one-time thing and it would have been very unlikely to see it being on the line officially. But with that said, do you agree with Sonnen?
