Jake Paul needs a fight with Nate Diaz.
That’s according to Chael Sonnen who was recently commenting on Paul’s absence from the boxing ring.
The YouTuber-turned-boxer last competed in August when he emphatically knocked out former UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley.
Paul has since called out the likes of Conor McGregor, Jorge Masvidal and Diaz. He was also in negotiations to fight Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.
However, nothing came to fruition with Paul stating he would take a break, with part of the reason being to promote Amanda Serrano’s upcoming fight with Katie Taylor.
Paul has also teased a summer return.
Chael Sonnen: One Bad Night For Jake Paul Is Not A Problem
With that said, Sonnen feels there’s another reason why Paul is not fighting.
Sonnen believes it’s because Paul’s fight with Woodley — which was originally supposed to be a fight against Tommy Fury — didn’t meet expectations.
Not how the fight went, but with all the post-fight reports of it doing very poorly on pay-per-view.

That is why Sonnen believes Paul could really use a fight with Diaz, who is currently looking to get out of his UFC contract.
“Jake told us his last fight didn’t meet expectations, that’s fine,” Sonnen said on his YouTube channel (via BJ Penn). “I put on live events all the time, you have to be used to that. You will do everything the same, you’ll sell out, 5,000 people. You will take that same recipe to a different date, for reasons you don’t understand, there will be 500 people… What do you do? Well, I can tell you what did happen, they didn’t use him again.
“… Jake Paul came out and said that he was putting his boxing career on hold. I think it had to do with like promoting or helping train a female teammate of his. He was smart enough to get in front of it. Was that the reality? Did he not want to fight? Or did he know that a fight wasn’t coming? I can only tell you that as I surmise with the evidence I have in front of me, Jake Paul can really use Nate Diaz right now. Having one bad night isn’t enough to go into an absolute panic. But having one bad night is a problem.”
