Henry Cejudo didn’t think too highly of Brandon Moreno’s ‘war’ against Kai Kara-France.
It wasn’t an easy task, but Moreno ultimately got the job done against Kara-France at UFC 277. Moreno would finish ‘Don’t Blink’ in round 3 after taking some damage early on in the fight, sporting a nasty gash under his eye.
Cejudo Doesn’t Think Moreno Has Evolved
While Moreno won ‘fight of the night honors’ and the UFC interim flyweight title, not everybody was impressed by his performance… especially not the former champ Cejudo. ‘Triple C’ doesn’t believe that Moreno has really grown too much as a fighter despite switching camps after his last loss to Deiveson Figueiredo.
“I feel like Moreno’s still the same guy,” Cejudo said on the ‘Triple C and Schmo Show‘. “There’s nothing really that he did that I’m just [impressed by]. I think it was more of what Kai didn’t do. I don’t think he stayed disciplined in kicking his legs, where he had hurt [Moreno]… He didn’t stay on it.
“That being said, I didn’t see anything different from Brandon. It’s the same Brandon that left his coach in Mexico. He’s the exact same guy.”
‘Congratulations’
While Cejudo did belittle Brandon a bit, he ultimately said good job on the TKO finish.
“Even with that body kick, yeah he did catch him. I will say congratulations but it was more the fact he rushed that, he walked into it and telegraphed it. He took that risk and caught him and that’s where he was able to hurt him.”
‘Deficiencies’ In Moreno’s Defense
The congrats wouldn’t last long from Cejudo however. The former double-champ continued to pick on Moreno, seeing deficiencies in his defense against Kara-France.
“Look at his eye,” Cejudo added. “Look at his face. Look at his limbs. Yeah, we’re in mixed martial arts but that doesn’t mean you have to be in wars. When you’re in wars where your face is beat up, that just tells you that your defense is— there’s a deficiency in there.”
Do you agree with Henry Cejudo?
