Carlos Prates wrecked Jack Della Maddalena’s homecoming at UFC Perth.

Prates stopped Della Maddalena by third-round TKO in Saturday’s welterweight main event at RAC Arena, finishing the former UFC champion at 3:17 of Round 3. Della Maddalena had the Perth crowd behind him, but Prates took over with calf kicks, knees, elbows, and ground-and-pound.

Prates is Carlos Augusto Monteiro Prates, a Brazilian welterweight and former Muay Thai fighter. His record is now 24-7, and his UFC run improved to 7-1, with all seven UFC wins coming by knockout or TKO.

Prates Breaks Down Della Maddalena Round By Round

Round 1 was competitive. Della Maddalena pressed forward, worked his jab, and mixed in body shots while Prates circled and attacked the leg. Prates landed clean punches, knees, and a heavy leg kick, but Della Maddalena scored a late takedown before the horn.

Round 2 was where the damage started adding up. Prates landed knees, a head kick, sharp jabs, and calf kicks that clearly bothered Della Maddalena’s lead leg. Della Maddalena still fired back and found moments with his hands, but Prates was landing the harder, cleaner strikes by the end of the round.

After the win, Prates brought his mother and daughter into the cage and called for the next title shot.

“I come for war,” Prates said. “I train so much. I make everybody travel so far, so I couldn’t come here and just lose.”

“I respect Jack, he’s a great champ but it’s just business,” Prates said. “It’s part of the game. Jack is a great champ. I need to ask something? Who is next? In August, I will be first in line watching [Islam] Makhachev and Ian [Machado Garry] and I will be next. I’m going to fight the winner.”

For Della Maddalena, this is a hard reset after the Makhachev loss. For Prates, it is the biggest win of his career and a clean argument for a title eliminator, if not the next shot outright. If Makhachev and Ian Machado Garry are next for the belt, Prates just made sure his name is stuck in the same conversation.
