Carla Esparza’s special day was even more special because some major gold was involved.
One of the bigger storylines coming in and out of UFC 274 was that ‘Cookie Monster’ Esparza was getting married a week after her championship fight with Rose Namajunas. Well, she got married on Saturday, and she brought her newly won strawweight championship belt with her.
The bride and the belt
On Saturday, Esparza’s manager Brian Buter-Au, who also officiated the wedding, posted a picture of Esparza wearing her new belt alongside her husband and himself.
“What an honor it was to officiate @matthew_lomeli and @carlaesparza1 wedding. #andnewhusbandandwife,” Butler wrote on Instagram.
This isn’t the first time that someone took their UFC championship belt to their wedding. Former bantamweight king T.J. Dillashaw wore his bantamweight belt to his wedding.
Esparza is coming off a win at UFC 274, where she defeated Namajunas via split decision to go up 2-0 in their rivalry. With no clear next opponent in line, UFC 275 could answer some of those questions on June 11.
