Carla Esparza is looking to return to action in the winter.
The UFC women’s strawweight champion recently underwent a platelet-rich plasma (PRP) procedure after suffering injuries from her last outing.
She is now on the road to recovery as she undergoes physical therapy and took to social media to provide an update on her health as well as a potential return date.
“Health update: Got PRP in 2 locations last week, and started Physical Therapy yesterday. The hardest part for fighters is resting/healing when your doctors tell you to because mentally we are so tough we can push through pain, but we need to let ourselves heal so we can come back 100%. Pending approval from physical therapist, looking to fight in November or December 😊👊🏽”
Carla Esparza Set For First Title Defense
Esparza became a two-time 115-pound champion following her split decision victory over Rose Namajunas at UFC 274 back in May.
Although it was a crowning moment for Esparza — who recorded her second win over Namajunas in the process — it was a very uneventful fight with little to no action.
With a return planned for November or December, Esparza will be looking to prove her doubters wrong with an impressive performance.
A trilogy with Namajunas is highly unlikely, but given Weili Zhang’s impressive knockout win over Joanna Jedrezejczyk in June, it looks like the Chinese superstar will be next to face Esparza.
Esparza previously spoke of the fight, stating that it will happen on her timeline whenever she is ready to compete.
“I definitely don’t feel like I’m in a position where I should rush just because Weili wants a certain date,” she said. “I’m not trying to go on her timeline. I’m the champion, and I feel she needs to go on my timeline.”
