The Former UFC Heavyweight Champion Cain Velasquez Shows His Superb Striking Skills At UFC Phoenix Open Workout!
After over two years of break, Cain Velasquez finally returns to Octagon this Sunday night (February 17, 2019), where he’ll meet the all-time best Cameroonian mixed martial artist Francis Ngannou in the main event of UFC on ESPN 1.
The MMA community was worried since Cain didn’t look great at his training video from early January. The clip below shows the former Heavyweight king has skills and power. Yet, Velasquez throws the whole body into a punch and his strikes seem considerably slow.

Cain looks great!

My money is on Cain, the problem is, you can execute perfectly but if Francis clips you the right way, it's lights out.https://t.co/TWwPwkv90Z#UFC #WMMA #TeamMMA4LIFE #MMA#PeoplesMMA #CainVelasquez #UFCPhoenix pic.twitter.com/l8n64VI8te— The People's MMA 🦈 (@ThePeoplesMMA) January 13, 2019
But Cain Velasquez is putting those concerns to sleep heading into the clash versus Francis Ngannou. A video below shows Velasquez smashing pads at UFC on ESPN 1 open workouts. His skills look significantly better.
Cain Velasquez (14-2 MMA, 12-2 UFC) had ups and downs in his last three fights – two wins and one loss. He destroyed Junior dos Santos at UFC 166 on October 19, 2013, via fabulous slam and punch to defend UFC Heavyweight title.
Fabricio Werdum forced “Cardio Cain” to surrender at UFC 188 on June 13, 2015, and ended his title run. In his last match, Velasquez TKOd Travis Browne at UFC 200 on July 9, 2016, and earned a Performance of the Night award too.
Francis Ngannou (12-3 MMA, 7-2 UFC) lost a 265-pound title fight to Stipe Miocic at UFC 220 on January 20, 2018, after excellent five rounds. “The Predator” then took part in one of the worst matches in the history of this sport at UFC 226 on July 6, 2018, where he was defeated to Derrick Lewis via decision.
But Ngannou returned with a spectacular first-round KO over Curtis Blaydes at UFC Fight Night 141 last November.
What do you think, who’ll score a win in the main event of UFC Phoenix?
