Cain Velasquez has been reportedly transferred to Wasco State Prison where he would serve the remainder of his five-year sentence until his first parole eligibility in March 2026.

The former champ will be evaluated

After opting for a no-contest plea on multiple charges, including attempted murder, stemming from the shooting incident in 2022, Velasquez has now been transferred to Wasco State Prison, a center where inmates are sent before being moved to a different facility for long-term imprisonment. It is located just outside Bakersfield, California and roughly three hours away from Velasquez’s San Jose home.

Wasco State is a designated facility where inmates are thoroughly evaluated both physically and mentally. This process is crucial as it is how authorities determine the level of security required for each inmate before they get transferred to a primary prison such as San Quentin or Folsom State Prison for their long-term housing.

Cain could be set free next year

Velasquez’s sentencing states that he would be eligible for parole in March 2026. However, this date could still change depending on how the former UFC heavyweight champion will behave while inside Wasco State. Several factors such as good to exemplary behavior, active participation in prison programs and other positive deeds could possibly shorten the given period.

It can be recalled that Velasquez has been denied bail multiple times resulting in him spending eight months in jail. He was then eventually released and placed under house arrest. In total, Cain has now served three years of his five-year sentence.

All told, Velasquez could be a free man come March 2026 or earlier if everything plays out well for him inside Wasco State Prison.

Velasquez’s ordeal began in February 2022 after he chased and fired shots at Harry Goularte, who allegedly molested his son.
