Cain Velasquez Believes He Could Beat Jones

The Former UFC Heavyweight King Cain Velasquez Thinks He Could Take Out GOAT Jon Jones

Cain Velasquez last fought at UFC 200 on July 9, 2016, when he TKOd Travis “Hapa” Browne at the end of the first round. After two years off from MMA, “Cardio Cain” finally returns at UFC On ESPN 1 this Saturday night. He’ll meet a dangerous Cameroonian KO artist Francis “The Predator” Ngannou.

Cain Velasquez was linked to the match against Jon Jones earlier, when there were potential talks of champion vs champion battle, but their clash has never came to fruition.

Both Jon and Cain fight again, so it opens up a possibility of new potential Velasquez Vs Jones talks.

TMZ interviewed Cain Velasquez in Phoenix and asked him about potential “Bones” fight. “Cardio Cain” believes he might teach Jon Jones a lesson. (h/t TMZ)

”I think I could [beat him],” velasquez said. “I think I’m good enough. Jon Jones is an amazing athlete. I’ve watched him in all his fights, I know what he’s capable of. Again, every guy poses a great challenge, I think he does as well. I think I could beat him, yeah.”

“That’s why I’m in this sport, to fight the best guys, to be the best out there. So to me, it’s just go out there, perform, and win. Just take on the best guys.”

Unfortunately, it is very hard to believe Cain Velasquez Vs Jon Jones would happen. Cain’s friend Daniel Cormier is the current UFC Heavyweight champion, so he has the dibs at the moment.

“DC” wasn’t friendly towards the trilogy fight versus “Bones”. But after Jon’s win over Alexander “The Mauler” Gustafsson in the main event of UFC 232, Cormier wrote he’d be interested in another meeting if testing results come out clean.

“Bones” is set to defend UFC Light Heavyweight title versus Anthony Smith at UFC 235 on March 2, 2019.

But one thing is certain – Cain definitively wants to meet “Bones” if his comrade Daniel Cormier retires. What are your thoughts on Cain Velasquez Vs Jon Jones?
