After suffering one of the most horrific KOs in UFC history, featherweight standout Bryce Mitchell returned to the Octagon on Saturday night for a showdown with jiu-jitsu specialist Kron Gracie at UFC 310 in Las Vegas.
‘Thug Nasty’ has come up short in two of his last three outings, having been finished by both 145-pound king Ilia Topuria and Josh Emmett. Now, Mitchell is ready to get back to work and back in the win column against Gracie who will be competing for just the third time in five years.
Round 1
Mitchell got things started with a couple of early shots to the body as Gracie closed the distance. Getting in close, Gracie quickly pulled guard and Mitchell went down without resistance. Gracie closes his guard as Mitchell attempts to posture up. Very little action through the halfway point of the round, prompting the grown to voice their displeasure. Mitchell is landing short body shots, but aside from that, neither fighter is doing much. Mitchell lands a short elbow to the chin of Gracie and that’s pretty much where the offense ends for the remainder of the round.
Round 2
Gracie comes out and lands a big left hand to start the second round. Mitchell responds with a combination followed by an elbow that glances off Gracie’s cheek. As Gracie backs away, Mitchell approaches which allows Gracie to once again pull guard. After a few moments, Mitchell got back up to his feet and forced Gracie back up. Unfortunately, Gracie closed the distance and pulled guard once again halfway through the round.
However, Gracie finally got his grappling game going, fishing for an armbar before transitioning to an arm triangle attempt. Mitchell defended against the cage, but Gracie once again snatched the arm and nearly locked in a submission. Mitchell manages to remove himself from danger and lands a few ground-and-pound shots against the fence before the horn sounds.
Round 3
Mitchell lands a nice body shot as Gracie moves in and pulls guard yet again. Mitchell slams Gracie onto the mat and unleashes a massive elbow followed by another that immediately puts Gracie to sleep.
