Two of the featherweight division’s finest will finally meet.
5 Rounds
Brian Ortega will make his return against Yair Rodriguez on July 16th. It’s no ordinary fight, however. Ortega and Rodriguez will run it in a 5-round main event in Long Island, New York. The UFC announced the matchup on Thursday.
The Lead-Up
‘T-City’ hasn’t fought since his ‘fight of the year’ candidate against Alexander Volkanovski at UFC 266. Ortega would go the distance with the featherweight king, but would ultimately come out short.
Ortega looks to rebound in a massive way, when he meets Mexico’s Rodriguez in his fourth-straight main event.
Rodriguez wants to get back to the win column as well. ‘El Pantera’ last fought former champ Max Holloway in an incredible fight. Unfortunately for him, the close contest would end up being a victory for Holloway. Before that, Rodriguez was coming off victories over the likes of ‘The Korean Zombie’ and Jeremy Stephens.
Both featherweights will be front and center for the UFC’s long-awaited return to Long Island.
