- Brendan Schaub wants to see Conor McGregor return and fight Paddy Pimblett
- “Bapa” thinks it would be good for the UFC and “The Baddy”
Brendan Schaub proposed a Conor McGregor vs. Paddy Pimblett fight and explained why it’s one of the best scenarios for the UFC right now.
Paddy is the new Conor
Like most UFC analysts, “Bapa” is also convinced that “The Baddy” is on his way to becoming the UFC’s biggest superstar. Schaub pointed out that he knew early on that Pimblett will have an identical trajectory as McGregor and he believes it is finally happening.
“There’s no one more engaging, more star quality, no one that just draws every ounce of attention when they walk in the room like Paddy Pimblett. The only guy that was able to do that was Conor McGregor. I keep telling you guys, Paddy’s the closest thing, there won’t ever be another Conor [but] the closest thing we have is Paddy Pimblett, and he checked another box tonight [at UFC Miami],” Schaub said on his YouTube channel.
“People are like, ‘Oh, he’s actually better than I thought.’ Yes. You watch his film, you can tell the kid checks all the f**king boxes. He’s going to keep proving you wrong, very similar to Conor… Paddy Pimblett is the next global superstar for the UFC,” he declared.
The UFC should book Conor vs. Paddy
Schaub further assessed Pimblett’s rise to superstardom and even came up with his bold matchmaking idea. For “Bapa,” it would be of the UFC’s best interest to book McGregor against Pimblett.
Schaub is certain that McGregor vs. Pimblett will generate profits and moreover, “The Baddy” will beat “Notorious” to finally become the face of the UFC.
“Everyone still thinks Paddy’s the easiest guy in the Top 10, he’s going to be a Top-10 guy, no doubt,” Schaub analyzed. “These vets including Conor McGregor think they can get one over on Paddy. They’re sorely mistaken. Paddy’s still getting better. Every fight he’s getting better. I’m telling you he’s your next face of the UFC. But Conor is like, ‘Alright, this kid’s a big name. He’s the face of England. His striking isn’t world class… I will fight Paddy.’”
“So, I think you’re going to get Islam moves up, again, perfect world, Belal Muhammad could f**k all this up, but Islam could move up and then you have the vacant title at 55. All Paddy needs is one more. They’re not going to go Paddy-Topuria right now, it doesn’t make sense, but what makes all the sense and will get more views than Islam-Topuria, Jon Jones-Tom Aspinall, is Conor McGregor-Paddy Pimblett. Paddy beats Conor, then Paddy becomes the biggest star in the UFC. That’s the perfect world for the UFC,” he added.
Pimblett is now on a seven-fight winning streak, following his TKO win over Michael Chandler at UFC Miami. He is currently ranked No. 8 in the official lightweight rankings.
As for McGregor, it’s still yet to be known what the former UFC two-division champ plans to do next in his career.
